Talc
Talc is a convenient way in which to add magnesium into clay bodies and glazes. It is generally written as 3MgO.4SiO2.H2O, but as a natural mineral, its true composition can vary.
Talc is used to reduce thermal shock in clay bodies, produce matte and opaque glazes, and can reduce crazing in glazes used on earthenware clay bodies.
